Repurposing an old building
The building at Thoravej 29 is a new stage for society’s most forward-thinking individuals and organisations. It houses a community for the ones willing and able to create groundbreaking change in society.
The building comprises of workspaces, meeting rooms, collaboration areas, a studio for sound and video, a café, and in the centre of it all, a big stage for progressive debates and inspiring conversations.
In addition, Art Hub Copenhagen have studios, workshops, and exhibition areas for artists. Likewise, the HAUT residency centre runs a black box for performing-arts development. All of which has been carried out in sustainable architecture.
The Transformation
Bikubenfonden, Pihlmann Architects, Hoffmann A/S, and ABC Rådgivende Ingeniører was selected to carry out the transformation of Thoravej 29.
They have worked with a firm focus on sustainability. The guiding philosophy was to repurpose all materials from the old building to the extent possible. So, instead of disposing materials, they have been repurposed e.g., using floor partitions as stairs. And excess façade has been salvaged for flooring.
The transformation is expected to earn DGNB gold certification.
